John Elliott pic
John Elliott (left in the photo above), who is shown here at back beach in Phan Rang where he was with 2Sqn in 1967-1968, maintains an excellent web site with a bunch of photos and links to other good sites. The address for his site is www.users.bigpond.com/jae3806. We suggest you have a look and sign his address book.

John Elliott saw the photo above which we had in Vol 10, and he tells us that the bloke in the photo is in fact Peter Jackman, not John as we had it. Peter was a Cpl sumpie with 2Sqn which is why he got the bottom bunk. John’s is the top bunk, and he should know because he took the photo.
Peter Holmes from Burnie in Tassie sent us this, it’s a bit long, but we loved it, so we’ve included it here…….

In the beginning God created day and night. He created day for footy matches, going to the beach and barbies. He created night for going prawning, sleeping and barbies. God saw that it was good. Evening came and morning came and it was the Second Day.

On the Second Day God created water - for surfing, swimming and barbies on the beach. God saw that it was good. Evening came and morning came and it was the Third Day.

On the Third Day God created the Earth to bring forth plants - to provide tobacco, malt and yeast for beer and wood for barbies. God saw that it was good. Evening came and morning came and it was the fourth Day.

On the Fourth Day God created animals and crustaceans for chops, sausages, steak and prawns for barbies. God saw that it was good. Evening came and morning came and it was the Fifth Day.

On the Fifth Day God created Bruce - to go to the footy, enjoy the beach, drink the beer and eat the meat and prawns at barbies. God saw that it was good. Evening came and morning came and it was the Sixth Day.

On the Sixth Day God saw that Bruce was lonely and needed someone to to go to the footy with, surf with, drink beer with, eat and stand around the barbie with. So God created Mates, and God saw that they were good blokes. Evening came and morning came and it was the Seventh Day.

On the Seventh Day God saw that Bruce was tired and needed a rest. So God created Sheryl - to clean the house, bear children, wash, cook and clean the barbie. Evening came and it was the end of the Seventh day. God sighed, looked around at the twinkling barbie fires, heard the hiss of opening beer cans and the raucous laughter of all the Bruces and Sheryls, smelled the aroma of grilled chops and sizzling prawns, and God saw that it was good, better than that, it was bloody good...

.... IT WAS AUSTRALIA!

Those who worked on the old girl will have fond memories of both the aeroplane and of the Squadrons, both 38 and 35. The aeroplane was just a work horse, it was a funny looking thing, it was slow, cold, noisy and a rotten thing to fly in, but it went anywhere, and so did the blokes that flew it as did those that fixed it. It carted all sorts of stuff, to all sorts of places, and left a lot of blokes with heaps of fond memories of trips away in the old girl. On the 23Aug it will be nice to go see the old bugger again.

If you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything

Sex is like air. It's not important unless you aren't geting any.
